What Do Botox Certification Levels Mean?
When you look into getting Botox, you want to go to an office with knowledge and experience in this specialty. At Bee Aesthetics, owner and founder Dr. John Harmeyer has advanced level 5 certification in Botox, fillers, and FDO smooth threading. What does this certification mean?
About Botox Certification
Different certifying bodies offer training and certification in Botox and other types of aesthetic injections. Dr. Harmeyer received his training through the American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE), which considers itself a leading continuing education (CE) provider for botulinum toxins (like Botox) and other injectables such as dermal fillers.
Botox Certification Levels
Medical professionals go through levels of training to learn about and give injections of Botox and dermal fillers. These training courses build upon a base of medical knowledge, as it’s a prequalification for a participant to already be a medical professional such as an aesthetic professional or dentist.
Certification may vary by the certifying body, but here’s a breakdown of the levels with the AAFE:
- Level 1 introduces a medical professional to oral and maxillofacial (face and jaw) anatomy, botulinum toxin and dermal fillers, and methods for using and injecting. It focuses on the area of the mouth and lips. The professional learns about safety, including sterile techniques and adverse reactions.
- Level 2 increases knowledge and expertise by helping medical professionals improve their injection placement. It adds to level 1 knowledge with training on the eyebrow area, bunny lines around the nose, chronic migraines and other issues.
- Level 3 is a master level stage, which teaches advanced anti-aging facial techniques for volumizing, smoothing, sculpting and more. It includes more areas of the face such as the cheek and the undereye area.
- Then, the professional can move forward with additional Master Injector training in specific facial areas and techniques.
Choosing a Botox Professional
As you can see, a person with higher-level training in injectables like Botox has gained more extensive knowledge in anatomy and technique for working with different areas of the face. Also, in many states like Ohio, nurses can provide injections under the supervision of a physician.
At Bee Aesthetics, your injections are under the supervision of Dr. Harmeyer, who has level 5 certification. Contact us to learn more or make your appointment.
